About the Founder

Nicole DiCarlo – Founder

Nicole moved to Puerto Rico eight years ago and is a nurse practitioner with a lifelong passion for helping those in need. While currently focusing on raising her family, she dedicates her time to rescuing abandoned and injured dogs across the island.

What started as a personal mission has grown into Harry’s Island Paw Rescue a small but determined rescue run by Nicole and three dedicated volunteers.

Harry’s Island Paw Rescue is a small, volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Puerto Rico, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs in need.

Founded in late summer 2025, Harry’s Island Paw Rescue focuses on dogs found in dire situations across Puerto Rico. Many arrive malnourished, injured, or abandoned. With proper veterinary care, rehabilitation, and love, these dogs are given a second chance at life.

When adoption is not possible, we practice humane TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) to prevent further suffering and overpopulation.

Our Mission

We are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming Puerto Rico’s stray and abandoned dogs often known as “satos.” Through veterinary care, rehabilitation, and careful placement, we ensure every dog has the opportunity to find a loving home, either locally or in the mainland United States.
